Znet
ZNet is a huge website updated daily to convey information and provide community...

New Orleans Hurricane Impact Study
Pre-dating Katrina of course - an interesting read

Jintajungu
A site set up by indigenous Australians about affairs in the country affecting indigenous Australians (and the rest of us, if we are honest). An extreme eye-opener, and well worth reading, and perhaps contributing to.

David Davis and the EUHR
This is a single article, discussing concern over David Davis' promise to reform the EU Human Rights Act of 1998 if he were to be elected - as leader of the country. This has been in the news, but with only a brief mention of this clause. I would have thought it to be an issue worthy of long discussion - but apparently policy is not the issue in Tory leadership.

Atomic Confessions
Atomic testing in Australia, British government testing and how it has affected the population (particularly indigenous), and the environment. Screenings of the documentary in several countries.

John Pilger
Some articles by John Pilger. John Pilger is an Australian journalist based in the U.K. He is a peace activist and a campaigner for human-rights, and has made several documentaries

Noam Chomsky
Noam Chomsky is a distinguished American linguist and political activist and journalist, focussed specifically on the apalling record of American foreign policy.

Iraqi deaths
An in depth analysis of the Invasion of Iraq, including many quotes and figures, and well as a very sound argument. While it doesn't tell us anything surprising, it confirms a lot of what we should [all] know by now.

The Guardian - supression of witnesses in Iraq
This is a letter, published by the Guardian, regarding the lack of accurate figures and facts in Iraq. The difficulties facing unembedded journalists in Iraq - not to mention the dangers, are outlined here. On the page also are a great deal of links to other pieces of information regarding the US led invasion of Iraq.

Indymedia
Some intelligent articles, some not so. This may be the reality of democracy - all on an equal footing - rather than the current western political method of only the not-so-intelligent view points having representation.

7/7 Bombings
I don't usually get into the conspiratorial side of events - there is too much room for error. However, elements of this forum do point out a lot of questions I remember asking at the time. I also remember saying something along these lines; 'They will find some poor muslim victim in all this and pin it to him. Just think of Britain's track record for 'catching' terrorists, and you realise they not any better than the U.S.; just more convincing at their lies.' 2 days after the event, they had no leads, they had no documents or evidence found on the scenes, 5 days later, they had passports and CCTV and 4 suicide bombers. Very convenient, for everyone except the victims (who will be remembered as terrorists), and those victims parents and family.

The most important terrorism is ours
An article by John Pilger - esteemed journalist, war and political correspondent. Based in the UK, born and educated in Australia, Pilger has produced a number of documentaries for BBC and ITV in the U.K. This article is for those of you who are not converted - those who still, despite all the odds, believe what your government is doing in your name is just and fair. If it takes your interest, there are a myriad of articles online by Pilger, on various different elements of todays political and foreign affairs.

Real News
A toolbar for finding the latest news from independent sources on the web

Media Lens
Media Lens - in their own words: Media Lens is our response to the unwillingness, or inability, of the mainstream media to tell the truth about the real causes and extent of many of the problems facing us, such as human rights abuses, poverty, pollution and climate change.

Dissident Voice
This site has a lot of good articles and collected links to other media sites across the web.

Al Jazeera News
For when you need the opinions from the other side to make sense of your own... its not a radical news site - just a little more in tune with the people and cultures it covers.

Upside-Down World
News on what's really going on in South America, minus all the US foreign agenda.

Electronic Intifada
The Palestinian question - a very professional web site showing (for once) the Palestinian viewpoint inside the world of Israel. There is some very important information to be found here.

NewsMap
An incredible idea - everyone should link to this... Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator. A treemap visualization algorithm helps display the enormous amount of information gathered by the aggregator. Treemaps are traditionally space-constrained visualizations of information. Newsmap's objective takes that goal a step further and provides a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe.

Irati Wanti
"We are the Kupa Piti Kungka Tjuta, the Senior Aboriginal Women of Coober Pedy, South Australia." News, events and activism on aboriginal and environmental issues in Australia. Worth a read - these are real people doing a real job to keep Australia informed and hopefully safe from more death and destruction rained down on the forgotten people of Australia as happened with the A bomb testing midway through last century.

ENIAR
"Our aim is to promote awareness on indigenous issues and to provide information for Indigenous Australians about Europe and international organisations." This is a good place to learn about the major issues facing indigenous Australians today. Its a good reminder of why people are trying to get this side of the story heard from an international perspective - there is far too many serious crimes against the tribes of Australia being committed even now - and most of them stem from a government level.

Axis of Logic
A site with some good articles - taking the news and 'finding clarity in the 21st century' as they put it. First impressions show it seems to be article-based - and there is a lot in there. Worth reading.

New Matilda
Finally, an Australian forum for intellectual debate, stories and news about the events shaping the country in the present times. As an Australian, definitely worth joining and contributing, for others - your perspective can be just a useful.

Intercontinental Cry
Whether you work to end the WTO, to protect the Buffalo, or empower the impoverished: our purpose is a common one, and it is to have a world worthy of all our children... and so we must call attention to what is necessary for that world to be, to proceed to make that world a reality.

They work for you - politicians in the UK
This site allows you to search for pretty much anything that has been said and by whom in the House of Commons or House of Lords. Worthwhile in terms of the facts that information is not withheld by a biased media. Another site that is similiar can be found at Public Whip

Jihad Unspun
Jihad Unspun is an open information source dedicated to understanding the issues behind the US war on "terrorism". We publish mainstream and uncensored news, articles, and opinions without influence of any government, corporation, or association.

Media Lens - Facts about BBC Have your Say (censorship issue
For the numerous (so it seems) people around the world who are of the belief that the British BBC represents a professional no-biased media base, one element of it is explored in depth - that of the 'Have your Say' section of the BBC online. It is shaping up here fairly definitively to show the Beeb is interested in anything but. Pay close attention to the latest posts on Google, China and censorship.

Palm Island
This is currently a site in progress - but hopefully will be up and running shortly. My aim is for collaboration and interaction with real Palm Islanders (not the tiny white contingent who seem to hold power there) online. Hopefully, Palm Islanders will have the facilities in order to be able to update their own news, etc. A domain name is coming, and when there is money, some ad-less hosting, (although as it is it is still tasteful advertising). It seems unbelievable to me that in the day of the web (until now) there is so little on the largest Aboriginal community in Australia online.

BCC - Don't Have your Say
A place where disgruntled Have-your-say posters can come to really have their say on the news of the day - a forum to discuss the often blatant censorship of the BBC - particularly with regard to their \'Have your Say\' forums.

Iransolidarity
This site has been set up to show news and media analyses on the impending aggression of the US against Iran. There is a focus on activism, raising public awareness of the reality versus the fiction displayed by the press and our western governments on the issue. Iran is not a threat, however the US certainly is a threat to Iran.

EndofEmpire
EndofEmpire catalogues the various work of the world's most powerful countries in making the world's poorer (and poorest) countries submit to their will. The main offenders of course, are the US, the UK and Western Europe, but where there is money and imperialist mind-sets, there seems to be the desire to 'rule the world'. We hope to offer some understanding on the issues, and alternatives.

International Activism Registry
It is our aim, first and foremost, to present (through contributions) a database and list of all the current groups acting towards a better world, for us, for animals, for our ecology, who feel that they have similiar goals.

Life Behind the Wall
A great site full of opinions, ideas, news etc from the people of Palestine

PCHR
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) is an independent legal body based in Gaza City dedicated to protecting human rights, promoting the rule of law and upholding democratic principles in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Chagos Support Association
The Chagos Islands were stolen from their inhabitants in the 1960s by the UK and leased to the Americans as a strategic military base from which to bomb middle eastern countries. 40 years later, the Chagos Islanders are still trying to get their home back. Despite 2 rulings from the high court in their favour, the UK government continues to resist and appeal these decisions. Now that many are living in the UK, it is much more possible to help these people get justice.
